Hello, Friend, The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition recently held its annual consumer tasting event on Saturday, February 18th, at the Fort Mason Center, overlooking the bay. SFCWC is the largest American wine competition in the world, and Gann Family Cellars was excited to showcase our two SILVER award winners - the 2009 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and the 2009 Alexander Valley Zinfandel. 2009 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley Our first vintage! 2009 Zinfandel Alexander Valley A Wine Club Member Exclusive! So while you may not have been at Fort Mason a few Saturday's ago, we'd like to showcase these special wines with you! We find our Pinot Noir to be an elegant wine with beautiful crimson color and a bouquet full of cherries. The flavors evolve in your mouth adding layers of currant, hints of graphite and delicate white pepper spiciness. This wine offers a smooth finish with polished tannins and texture. A wonderful, lively acidity makes for a vibrant accompaniment with pasta, chicken or pork. The 2009 Zinfandel has a deep red hue with ripe aromas of plum and raspberry. Those same fruit flavors evolve in the mouth along with hints of clove and black pepper spice. As the warmer spring weather arrives and BBQ's come out of their winter hibernation, this Zinfandel would pair wonderfully with a juicy steak or rack of ribs! Even though this was our Pinot Noir's first wine competition, this wine has been released to the general public for over a year. However, the Zinfandel is available exclusively to Wine Club members as this particular 2009 vintage has not been released to the general public.
