"I'm impressed with Washington State consistently producing world class wine. The 2009 Pedestal surpassed my expectations with the exceptional quality of grapes that we're finding at the Wienbau and Conner Lee vineyards. They're the reason Pedestal has such great concentration of flavors, color and structure."

"Good, bright ruby red. Sexy burnished currant, minerals and flowers on the nose, complicated by chocolate and graphite. Lush, ripe and broad, with layered flavors of cassis, black cherry and licorice. Large-scaled, dense and airy, and not at all overly sweet. Finished very long, with broad, dusty tannins, and excellent structure. This really echoes on the aftertaste. Very successful and sophisticated. Perhaps the best vintage to date for this wine."

About Michel Rolland
Michel Rolland crafts wines for many of the world's most famous wineries, but his roots come from Pomerol, home to Bordeaux's finest Merlots. Producing wines with his own alluring style, he champions such vineyard management techniques as effeuillage (thinning of leaves) and eclaircissage (pruning of clusters) to encourage the advent of perfectly ripened grapes. Aging on the lees in new oak barrels and in-barrel malolactic fermentation are also Michel's trademarks. But first and foremost, Michel is an observer. He studies the blend of personality traits that distinguish the vineyard and the grower, and recognizes the nuances that separate an unexciting wine from something extraordinary. It's this ability to understand the wine that makes him such an amazing oenologist.
For the 2009 Pedestal, Michel used hand-harvested grapes that were double-sorted, first as clusters and then as berries, to remove any green material that might impart harsh tannins. The grapes were then cold soaked to build richness and flavor in the juice before undergoing whole-berry fermentation in upright wood tanks.
We are excited to bring you this mix of Columbia Valley terroir and Old World techniques in this exclusive offer to our valued Private Cellar members.
Cheers,
