Winemaker's Note
"After a slow, cool start to the 2009 growing season, we were rewarded with perfect pattern 95 degree days for the next month and a beautiful September that winemakers can only wish for. As a result, the 2009 offers dark fruit and savory notes with palate structure, concentration and vibrant intensity. It is a vintage that will reward cellaring for up to 15 years."

Dear %%FIRST%%,
There are just three days remaining to purchase the 2009 Sequel Syrah and enjoy complimentary ground shipping on purchases of 6 bottles or more. This limited release (only 1,107 cases produced) was recently awarded 93 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
"Chocolate, mocha and brown spice elements are prominent in the nose with an expansive, plush palate. There is primary dark berry juiciness along with hints of mint, black pepper, smoky black tea, and iodine to take this wine in a properly profound direction. What's more, there is a lovely sense of lift and energy to the finish. I suspect this Syrah will prove well worth following for a dozen years." - The Wine Advocate, Dec. 2012

The 2009 Sequel was crafted by John Duval, who spent 16 years as winemaker for Australia's iconic Penfolds Grange. John came to Long Shadows and the Columbia Valley in 2003 for the "sequel" of his life's work with Syrah.
We are pleased to offer you complimentary ground shipping on all orders of 6 or more bottles of 2009 Sequel through Friday, February 8th.

About John Duval
John graduated from Adelaide University in 1973 with a degree in agriculture and winemaking, and then began his career with a 29 year stint at Penfolds, one of Australia's most famous wineries. He was appointed Chief Winemaker at Penfolds in 1986 and was fortunate enough to oversee one of the most dynamic periods of change in the Australian wine industry.
2009 Sequel Syrah
In 2009, a near perfect summer and lower than average yields caused grapes to ripen quickly and evenly, sparking one of the earliest and fastest harvests on record, while producing wines with deep color and exceptional concentration. For the 2009 Sequel (99% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon), John carefully selected and hand-harvested grapes that underwent a variety of fermentation techniques to produce a wide spectrum of flavors. These practices included fermenting a portion of the lots at cooler temperatures to slow fermentation and preserve bright fruit character in the wine. John also employed an Australian technique known as "rack and return" that allows for gentle treatment of the berries at peak fermentation to extract optimal color and richness.
We are excited to bring you a mix of Columbia Valley terroir and Australian winemaking techniques in this exclusive offer.
