Rodney Strong Vineyards is inviting Symmetry Society members to take advantage of a very limited and exclusive release of our 2009 Brothers Ridge Cabernet. In 2009 we produced a very limited number of cases. Being a cooler weather year, the ripest fruit came from only three vineyard blocks. Winemaker Greg Morthole explains below. |

“The 2009 Brothers Ridge came from only three blocks—1, 4 and 5. More than half of this bottling came from block 1, on the reddish, stony soils at the base of the hillside. The black cherry and cherry components in the wine are strongly accentuated by this portion of the vineyard, although the cooler nature of the 2009 vintage also shows a pull towards more reddish fruit tones. Some of the chocolate and underlying cassis tones come from blocks 4 and 5, at higher elevations. In particular, the north part of block 5, which is planted to clone 337 adds cassis plus structure to the wine, while block 4, which is planted to clone 7, usually shows a softer side with lots of chocolate and some vinous, blackberry character. The blocks were picked separately and according to ripeness, between the end of September and mid-October, with the block 4 coming in just a few days before an early rain event on Oct 13th.”
