Dear %%FIRST%%,
There will soon be bud break in the vineyards and spring is in air, which means it’s time for the pre-release of our highly anticipated 2012 Poet’s Leap Riesling!
Crafted by winemaker Armin Diel, proprietor of Germany’s renowned Schlossgut Diel, Poet’s Leap has built a loyal following and the new vintage may be our best yet. With wonderful brightness, the 2012 vintage is a vibrant, refined wine showing exceptional balance and purity of flavors. Layers of minerality, white flowers, dried apricots, refreshing citrus and a hint of honey provide complexity that lingers across a clean finish.
In addition to this new release, we have a very small quantity of our 2009 Poet’s Leap Ice Wine (95 points, Connoisseurs’ Guide) and 2010 Poet’s Leap Botrytis Riesling (93 points, Wine Advocate). These two limited production late harvest wines represent the sweeter side of the spectrum that this unique grape has to offer.
Enjoy complimentary ground shipping on 6 or more bottles of Poet's Leap Riesling through Friday, April 19th.
Armin Diel is one of Germany’s most highly acclaimed Riesling producers. His family has owned the Schlossgut Diel estate, in the Nahe River Valley, since 1802. Involved in the estate from early childhood, Armin assumed management of the winery, a 12th century medieval castle and its prestigious vineyards, in 1987. The Schlossgut Diel vineyards have been classified with the highest possible ranking since 1901, giving them status comparable to a Burgundy Grand Cru.

Hand-harvested grapes were gently sorted and whole cluster pressed to avoid any bitterness while enhancing clean, crisp character and freshness in the finished wine. Fermented at a cool 60°F in stainless steel tanks using a collection of German yeasts, Armin selected his favorite lots of the vintage to achieve a lively Riesling styled with a racy, complex character.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the Long Shadows wines.
Cheers,

"This is our 10th vintage of Poet’s Leap, and what strikes me most is the freshness and complexity I can get with Columbia Valley Riesling on a cool vintage like 2010 and 2011 as well as on warmer vintages like 2008 and 2012. The flavors in the 2012 lean more toward white peach flavors but still retain a vibrant acidity and layers of minerality so characteristic in Washington."

2011 Poet’s Leap Review
(2012 not yet reviewed)
“Sinewy and elegant, with a tangy citrus scent and a hint of peppercorn, this feels finely knit and pure. The flavors bring to bear a juicy, mouthwatering briskness, with a minerality that suggests a long, thrilling life in the cellar.”
