Dear %%FIRST%%,
We are pleased to offer you the opportunity to reserve your allocation of our 2009 Chester-Kidder Red Wine crafted by Gilles Nicault, Long Shadows’ director of winemaking and viticulture. Gilles draws on his considerable experience in Washington state and the Columbia Valley’s top vineyards to craft this deeply complex limited release (only 989 cases produced).
Aromas of black cherry and cocoa compliment vibrant flavors of cassis, licorice and blackberry in this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah, 17% Petit Verdot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Hints of graphite and a subtle earthiness provide layers of depth and complexity. With its firm structure and polished tannins, the wine’s velvety texture glides pleasantly across a lengthy finish.
Enjoy complimentary ground shipping on 6 or more bottles of 2009 Chester-Kidder through May 31st.

About Gilles Nicault
Gilles grew up in southern France and graduated from the University of Avignon with a degree in viticulture and enology. He honed his craft in the fabled hillside vineyards and wineries of Cotes du Rhone, Provence, and Champagne. In 1994, already a vintner of rising fame in his homeland, Gilles traveled to Washington state for the opportunity to be part of a growing and vibrant wine community. He served as head of enology and production at Woodward Canyon before joining the Long Shadows team. Gilles has been director of winemaking and viticulture since Long Shadows' inception in 2003.
2009 Chester-Kidder
An unusually cool spring in 2009 resulted in a slow start to the growing season, but by June the temperatures warmed considerably and ideal growing conditions persisting through September. A near perfect summer and lower than average yields caused the grapes to ripen quickly and evenly sparking one of the earliest and fastest harvests on record and yielding wine with deep color and exceptional concentration. The 2009 Chester-Kidder was aged for 30 months in hand-selected predominantly new French oak barrels to integrate the wood, tannins and fruit while enhancing the mouth feel and overall impression of the wine.
As always, we appreciate your support and the opportunity to share our Long Shadows wines with you.
Cheers,
Allen Shoup

Winemaker’s Note
“After almost 20 years in the Columbia Valley, I’m still amazed by its incredible diversity. Its various microclimates and terroir are important assets for Chester-Kidder’s new world blend style using Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and an under layer of Petit Verdot. Sourcing from the varied sites and then aging in French barrels for an extended period contributed to a profound complexity and sophisticated texture in the 2009 vintage.”
