Pedestal
Introducing 2010 Pedestal 94 Points Wine Advocate Order Today

Winemaker’s notes
"Tasting the 2010 vintage brings to my attention what consistently stellar wines the Columbia Valley produces. Although there are natural variations between vintages, we can always rely on optimum growing conditions year after year. Pedestal’s deep structure and complexity in a cooler vintage like 2010 is proof
of that."

Review for the 2010 Pedestal
94 POINTS
“A big, rich Merlot, the 2010 Pedestal offers knockout aromas and flavors of creme de cassis, black raspberry, crushed flowers, licorice and big minerality to go with a medium to full-bodied, supple and sexy palate that firms up beautifully on the finish. There’s big fruit here, yet overall, it remains perfectly balanced and has sound underlying tannic structure. Give it 3-4 years in the cellar and enjoy over the following decade or more.”

Dear %%FIRST%%,

Coinciding with the new release of our 2010 Pedestal Merlot, we are thrilled and humbled by the fantastic review it received this month from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate — 94 Points! Touting the wine's "knockout aromas and flavors", "sexy palate" and "big fruit" (see the full review in the right sidebar), this is one wine you won't want to miss. We encourage you to secure your pre-release allocation as we only produced 967 cases and the 2009 vintage sold out in just two weeks.

The 2010 Pedestal is a bold, expressive Merlot with intense flavors and aromas of blackberry jam, dried flowers, crème de cassis, licorice and toasted oak. Sweet tannins and a velvety texture persist across the mid-palate to provide a wonderfully balanced and lengthy finish.

Through August 9th, enjoy complimentary ground shipping on all orders of 12 or more bottles of the 2010 Pedestal Merlot.

About Michel Rolland
Although Michel’s roots come from Pomerol, home to Bordeaux’s finest Merlots, he crafts wines for many of the world’s most famous wineries. Producing wines with his own alluring style, he champions such vineyard management techniques as effeuillage (thinning of leaves) and eclaircissage (pruning of clusters) to encourage the advent of perfectly ripened grapes. His trademarks also include aging on the lees in new oak barrels and in-barrel malolactic fermentation. Yet to Michel, those techniques would mean nothing without first observing and understanding the blend of personality traits that distinguish the vineyard and the grower, and recognizing the nuances that separate an unexciting wine from something extraordinary. It is his ability to understand the wine that makes him such an amazing enologist.

2010 Pedestal
For the 2010 Pedestal, Michel used hand-harvested grapes that were double-sorted to remove any green material that might impart harsh tannins. Afterwards, most of the lots were cold soaked to build richness and flavor in the juice before undergoing whole-berry fermentation in upright wood tanks, further enhancing the wine’s color, texture and mouth-feel. The finished wine was aged 22 months in 85% new Sylvain and Millet French oak barrels.

As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to share our Long Shadows wines with you, and appreciate your continued support.

Cheers,

Allen Shoup, Founder Dane Narbaitz, President
