“Internationally, 2010 was an exceptional year. Bordeaux had the year of the century with wines darker than ever and Napa produced some of the most complex wines in quite sometime. Washington was no exception. The long maturing season developed wonderfully seductive flavors, harmonious wines with soft and sweet tannins. The meaning of Pirouette is especially amplified in 2010 with a sense of spin, twirl and twist when tasting it.”

“Scents of violets and raspberries lead on the bouquet, with plenty of rich, new oak aromas. It’s bright and spicy in the mouth, youthful and balanced, with terrific energy and aging potential. Cellar Selection.”

Dear %%FIRST%%,
As we ready ourselves for the upcoming harvest, we are excited to announce the release of our 2010 Pirouette. Continuing its tradition of great scores, it was just awarded 94 points and named a Cellar Selection by Wine Enthusiast magazine!
A blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot, the 2010 Pirouette is deep and inky, with a well-integrated concentration of flavors and silky tannins. Winemaker Philippe Melka used a variety of fermentation techniques to enhance each component of this vibrant and well-balanced blend. We encourage you to act early to reserve your allocation, as the 2008 and 2009 vintages sold out within weeks. Like all Long Shadows wines, a very limited amount of the 2010 Pirouette was produced.
In the near future, we plan to introduce a unique wine club that will offer a multitude of privileges: favorable pricing, special events, and exclusive wine club wines. When we launch the club, discounts on wine and shipping will only be offered to our wine club members. However, until that time, we will honor our tradition of providing our best customers with complimentary ground shipping on 12 or more bottles of the 2010 Pirouette through September 27th.

While earning a geology degree from the University of Bordeaux, on a whim Philippe took a wine course – a decision that forever changed his life. His journey started at Chateau Haut Brion where his passion for cabernet-based blends began. While completing a masters program in Agronomy and Enology under the direction of renowned terroir specialist, Professor Sequin, he became intrigued by the relationship between soil and wine quality, a fascination that continues today.
Yearning to know more, Philippe set out for wine destinations worldwide; Napa Valley (Dominus Estate), Western Australia (Chittering Estate), Chianti in Italy (Badia O Coltibuono) and Bordeaux (Chateau Petrus) where he divided his time between soil study and winemaking.
Philippe was named one of the top nine winemakers in the world by Robert Parker. He now makes Napa Valley his home, where he has extensive winemaking experience (Bryant Family, Hundred Acre, Vineyard 29, Metisse, and CJ Wines).
In 2003 Philippe partnered with Agustin Huneeus, Sr. to craft Pirouette. Agustin Huneeus, Sr. began his career as CEO of Concha y Toro in Chile, before heading Seagram’s worldwide operations and transforming Franciscan Estates. Today he owns Quintessa estate winery in Rutherford, California.
Philippe used grapes from Red Mountain, Sagemoor, and Dionysus vineyards to create this classic Bordeaux blend. The 2010 growing season was cooler than recent preceding vintages, resulting in comparisons to 1999, a vintage remembered for the excellent color, flavor and varietal character of its wines. In 2010, a cool spring delayed flowering and reduced fruit set, then temperatures remained moderate throughout the summer. As a result, Philippe worked with growers to drop grape clusters and open up the canopies early in the season so that when the warm weather finally arrived in late September, the vines were well-positioned to finish off ripening and yield beautifully concentrated fruit.
As always, we appreciate your support and the opportunity to share our Long Shadows wines with you.
Cheers,
