Winemaker's Note Winemaker's Note
"Although 2010 was a cooler vintage than most I've experienced in Washington State, our efforts in the vineyard and at the winery were rewarded by a Syrah showing great intensity of color, wonderful aromas of dark berry and spice, and a richness balanced by good structure and vibrancy."

Philippe Melka, Winemaker | Wine Enthusiast

Dear %%FIRST%%,

During this busy holiday season we have enjoyed welcoming many of you to the tasting room for your holiday entertaining and gift-giving needs. A special thanks to all who joined us in Walla Walla for our annual Holiday Barrel Tasting Weekend!

A popular release both online and at the tasting room is our new 2010 Sequel Syrah, which was awarded 94 points by Wine Advocate. This is your reminder that complimentary ground shipping on orders of 12 or more bottles of this limited release ENDS THIS FRIDAY, December 20th.

"The best vintage of this cuvee to date, the 2010 Sequel Syrah is a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon that spent 18 months in 65% new French oak. Inky purple in color, it is decidedly meaty on the nose, with layers of black fruit, smoked meat, pepper and toast all emerging from the glass. Classy and rich on the palate, it dishes out a medium to full-bodied texture, great acidity and a blockbuster finish that keeps you coming back to the glass. The overall profile here is downright elegant and perfectly balanced; while already delicious, it will evolve gracefully for over a decade." - The Wine Advocate, 94 points

Ends Friday, December 20th - Complimentary ground shipping on orders of 12 or more bottles of 2010 Sequel.

About John Duval
Few winemakers are as synonymous with the iconic wines of a country as John Duval, best known for his work with Penfolds' Grange, the gold standard for Australian Shiraz. Some of his numerous awards and honors include the Robert Mondavi Trophy for Winemaker of the Year in 1989 at the International Wine & Spirits Competition in London; two-time recipient of the Red Winemaker of the Year award at the International Wine Challenge in London, first in 1991 and then again in 2000; and Wine Spectator's "Wine of the Year" award in 1995 for the 1990 vintage of Penfolds Grange. After 16 years as winemaker for Penfolds, John came to the Columbia Valley in 2003 as the "sequel" to his life's work with Syrah.

2010 Sequel
In response to cool spring and moderate summer conditions, we opened up the leaf canopies and dropped clusters so that the vines were well positioned to finish ripening when the warm weather arrived in the fall. We then carefully selected and hand-harvested Syrah from Boushey Vineyard, Bacchus Vineyard, Candy Mountain and Sonnet Vineyard from The Benches at Wallula for this wine. Cabernet Sauvignon from Dionysus Vineyard contributed depth and structure. An Australian technique known as "rack and return" that requires draining the tank twice daily and gently putting the juice back over the top of the skins was employed to extract color and optimal richness. The finished wine was aged 18 months in French oak (65% new) barrels.

We wish you and yours a very happy holiday season!
