We partnered with the Folonaris, one of Italy's oldest and most prestigious Tuscan wine families, to craft Saggi - a Super Tuscan styled blend of 53% Sangiovese, 28% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Syrah. The 2010 Saggi has already been awarded 92 points from both Wine Advocate and Wine Enthusiast magazines.
"This is an excellent wine...bright and generous, with plenty of toasty barrel flavors, it's highlighted with cut tobacco, citrus, herb and floral hints. There is an underlying minerality as well, making this one of Washington's most complex "Super Tuscans". Editors' Choice."

The 2010 Chester-Kidder is a Cabernet Sauvignon based red wine crafted by our director of winemaking and viticulture, Gilles Nicault. Loaded with dark cherry, blackberry and a hint of chocolate, it offers an impressive concentration of refined tannins and a lively mouth feel. The 2010 Chester-Kidder (67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Syrah, 5% Petit Verdot) is balanced from beginning to end, with layers of ripe, dark fruit and spice that leave a lasting impression.
Chester-Kidder is aged in French oak barrels for 30 months and is always our last wine to be released. Due to this extended aging period, it has not yet been submitted for review.

Winemaker Notes
"2010 was cooler than usual so it was important to be very responsive with a lot of early cluster thinning while opening up the canopy more than normal to achieve optimum maturation. The wine has an incredible intensity of red fruit with a plush and vibrant mouth feel." - Giovanni Folonari |

Winemaker Notes
"This deeply complex wine is a good example of a wine produced from low yielding vines in a cooler vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon was instrumental as the wine's backbone while the Syrah added the richness and layers we all love. The result is a well balanced wine focused on freshness and texture." - Gilles Nicault |
About Ambrogio and Giovanni
This father-son winemaking powerhouse has a family winemaking heritage that dates back to the late 1700s. The patriarch, Ambrogio Folonari, has been an outspoken advocate for Italian wine quality, and is the winemaker behind the original "Super Tuscan" - Cabreo. Together, Ambrogio and his son Giovanni focus on producing small-lot, estate grown Tuscan "grand crus" with an emphasis on terroir - making them the perfect choice to craft our Sangiovese-based red blend, Saggi. |

Twenty years later, Gilles Nicault is the director of winemaking and viticulture for Long Shadows Vintners and is the winemaker responsible for our Chester-Kidder Red Wine. In his career, Gilles has studied at the University of Avignon, honed his craft in the finest vineyards of Cotes du Rhone, Provence and Champagne, and served as head of enology and production at Woodward Canyon before joining the Long Shadows team in 2003. |
