Winter 2014 at Acacia Vineyard
Even though winter is upon us here at Acacia Vineyard, there is still a lot that is going on both in the vineyard and in the production facility. In the vineyard, while the vines are “sleeping” during the winter months, the vineyard management team is busy pruning the vines in anticipation for bud-break in the spring. Pruning focuses the growth of the vine where you want it, and it determines how much fruit a vine will eventually produce. The production crew is busy as well, with the filtering of the wines in anticipation of bottling that will begin in the first week of March. Filtering the wine prior to bottling can clarify a wine so it sparkles in your glass. This is an exciting time for the production team as they see their labor of love coming to fruition with the wine going from the barrels into the bottle.

2009 St Clair Pinot Noir
Acacia has been making a St. Clair Pinot every year since our founding in 1978. This small production wine is elegant, exuding fragrant notes of raspberry, cherry, and cedar. The strawberry, green tea and oak spice flavors on the palette are similar to the nose. The smooth, even body concludes slowly in a lingering, pleasing finish. This wine was made using traditional methods in order to accentuate the delicate, pretty aromas and flavors that are so characteristic of the St. Clair Vineyard. This is the second to final vintage and a perfect addition to your collection.
2012 Orogeny Russian River Pinot Noir
Winemaker Matthew Glynn began making Orogeny wines at Acacia Vineyard in 2008. Considered a winemaker’s dream vintage, 2012 gave this Orogeny Pinot Noir its luscious, ripe blackberry and blueberry aromas, with forest loam nuances. Opulent blackberry and mulberry flavors expand across the palate, picking up hints of sweet almond. Aged in 40 percent new French oak barrels, this wine finishes with warm toasted oak notes and spice.
