The Yorkshire Terrier
Yorkshire Terriers, affectionately known as “Yorkies”, offer big personalities in a small package. While members of the Toy Group of dog breeds, they are terriers by nature and are brave, determined, investigative and energetic.
One famous Yorkie was Smoky. Smoky was a war dog who served in WWII. Found in the jungles of New Guinea in 1944 by Corporal Bill Wynn, this 4 lb Yorkie served in the South Pacific with the 5th Air Force 26th Photo Recon Squadron. He is also believed to the be the first therapy dog of record, visiting and entertaining troops with Special Services and in hospitals from Australia to Korea.
