 Summertime, and the living is pretty darn easy in the Napa Valley, especially for Dads on Father’s Day, which falls on Sunday, June 17. We’ll go ahead and admit that BV has something in common with Dads – much as we love all our “children,” we can’t help loving our Cabs just a little more. (Don’t tell the others, please.) Since the early days when Georges de Latour planted his first vineyards #1 and #2 in Rutherford, Cabernet Sauvignon has been known as the big star of the Napa Valley, surely helped by the healthful influence of a warm climate, cool evenings and alluvial soils on the classic Bordeaux grape. It’s the variety that made us famous in the world of wine, and Dads love it. We’re featuring Cabernet with special prices this month.

We'll be taking advantage of our lovely estate on the grounds of the Rutherford House for an "only-in-Napa-Valley" kind of day. We'll be charcoal roasting a whole pig wrapped in banana leaves, Hawaiian style, in an authentic "Caja China" box and serving it at the buffet table with a selection of summer salads and desserts. Wear your most outrageous Hawaiian shirt and win a great prize in the "Best Hawaiian Shirt Contest".
Live Island music from the Faith Ako Trio. Hula dancing and great BV wines add to a special day that Dad will remember for a long time.

Here’s an interesting clip from our historic files on a very early “Judgment of Paris” you may not have heard about. Quoted in 1949 in newspapers from the St. Helena Star and the Calistoga Calistogan to the Buckeye Tavern in Youngstown, Ohio (!), it reads:
“June 28th 1949 – A tradition shattering jury of French wine connoisseurs, meeting at the George V Hotel in Paris, honored an American wine as being the peer of the famous French wines. Among those who made the choice were official representatives from the French Ministry of Agriculture, the Viticulture Association, the School of Enology, the French Syndicate of Hotels and editors of wine magazines and national French newspapers.”
