INTRODUCING OUR "CLUB MEZZANINE"
Are you looking for a place to hang out on the weekends, away from the crowds? Look no further; the cool, spacious Provenance Cellar is the wine country retreat you envision. Our newly built mezzanine was made for wine storage, and now stores memories. Come revel in the Moroccan-styled casbah while sipping from the winemakers' choice of the finest barrels we produce. Visits are complimentary for our wine club members. Just give us a call in advance to make your reservation.
Coming Soon: Hewitt + +
Talk about fancy initials - whenever you see a ++ (double plus) chalk mark on a barrel in our cellar, or on the winemakers' notes, you immediately know that the wine contained therein is special - really special. For our soon-to-be-released debut of the Hewitt "Double Plus" 2009 Cabernet, that designation couldn't be more accurate. With only 150 cases produced, the Double Plus is a Cabernet of unparalleled quality and rarity - the réserve de la réserve. Speaking of which, it's "reserved" for true aficionados; you must be a Hewitt or Provenance Wine Club member to have access to this wine. Care to try it?
Biking Napa Valley with Tom Rinaldi
In addition to being renowned for our world class wines, Napa Valley is also famous as a Mecca for bicyclists, who enjoy our clean air and the challenge of many steep, winding mountain roads. Director of Winemaking Tom Rinaldi is an avid, not to say obsessed, cyclist. For advanced riders (and those working on getting there), Tom has put together his "Rinaldi Ride of the Quarter" - a route for the adventurous who love looking down on the Valley and feeling the wind in their hair.
One of the more delightful rides I enjoy starts in the town of Rutherford. I usually park my truck with the bike in the back at the Rutherford Grill. I ride east following the Rutherford Cross Road down and left to the Silverado Trail, where I make a right turn south, then a left turn across the highway and up Sage Canyon Road (Hwy 128) up a long gentle grade to Lake Hennessey, skirting the lake for a couple miles until approaching the “Y” at the east end of the lake. From here, I take a right and follow Skellinger Rd to Silverado Trail, go across the Silverado Trail (left) and head back to the Rutherford Cross Road just after Hwy 128 and follow it back to Rutherford.
Wear a helmet, obey the traffic rules, and have a good time.

Lamb Chops with Lemon and Mediterranean Herbs |
Serves 6
INGREDIENTS:
6 loin lamb chops, trimmed
Sea salt
1/3 cup olive oil
Juice of 2 lemons (about 1/3 cup)
1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme
1 teaspoon chopped fresh oregano
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
|
 |
PROCEDURE:
Season lamb chops on both sides with sea salt. Stir together olive oil, lemon juice, zest, garlic and herbs in a flat dish large enough to hold meat. Lay meat flat in the marinade, turning over to coat both sides well. Cover dish and chill for 1-2 hours, turning meat 2-3 times. Remove dish from refridgerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before you plan to cook meat
Preheat grill or make a medium-hot barbecue fire. Lightly oil grate, drain the chops (discard any remaining marinade) and place lamb chops on grill. Cook to preferred degree of doneness, turning as needed (grilling takes around 10 minutes, depending on heat and size of lamb chops). Serve with gratin potatoes, flash-fried spinach and Provenance Merlot. [recipe by Melissa Clark]
