In the nose, dark cherry and rhubarb serve as a backdrop to fragrant spices and flinty limestone. Deep and brooding, the palate carries an earthy meatiness and fleshy black plum. Accents of black raspberry and cassis pick up the back of the palate as sturdy tannins hold the long finish. Pair this wine with a grilled pepper steak or with pasta dressed in a spicy red sauce. Across the palate, black plum and morello cherry flavors take on a gamey quality, supported by well-integrated oak and solid tannins. The finish lingers, holding the essence of the fruits and spices long after the wine has departed. This is a big, muscular wine packed with signature Syrah bravado and can easily stand up to braised short ribs or similar hearty meat dishes. Exhibiting classic characteristics of the Alexander Valley AVA Bing cherry and plum give way to black pepper and dried oak. The smooth finish lingers with light tannins and sumptuous dark chocolate. The complex, bright fruit and incredibly silky mouth feel are elegant and refined. Great to lay down for a few years although if you would like to enjoy it sooner we recommend decanting or aerating to bring out the middle notes. Looking for something special after dinner?
