SEPTEMBER 2012
ASSOCIATE WINEMAKER ALISON CRARY
WALKS THE WALK
Wherever she travels around the world, Alison Crary, our associate winemaker, makes time to walk the vineyards, talk to local winemakers about favored techniques, and observe how the environment affects the character of their wines. Before coming to Napa Valley, Alison studied enology at the famous Geisenheim school in Germany's Rheingau Valley and did winemaking stints in California, Italy and Germany. She's visited more than 32 wine regions around the globe, which pretty much makes her an inveterate student of terroir. She brings that same passion to the winery in Calistoga, where she aims to coax delicious world-class red wines from our Napa Valley sites, from the hills to the valley floor.

Featured Recipe: Poached Pears in Red Wine
This recipe is a delicate and lovely tribute to red wine and golden Bartlett pears. It calls for four cups of red wine, and leftovers are great for this! Pour yourself a glass of your favorite Sterling Vineyards red, don your apron and get to work on this fabulous fall treat.
IN THE VINEYARD
"We are harvesting Sauvignon Blanc. Fruit is clean with concentrated flavors, and tropical notes. Volume of fruit is heavy, with great quality. It's tasting better than ever. Super popping flavors." Andrew Nelson, Vineyard Manager
