Heard it through the Grapevine— News from the Vineyards!
We are gearing up for the 2013 harvest at Sterling Vineyards! From preparing our equipment to ordering new wine barrels to monitoring the grapes and more, the winery is abuzz with activity.
Alison Crary, our Associate Red Winemaker, is bottling several new vintages of our red wines, including the 2011 Winemakers’ Select Red Blend, the 2012 Carneros Pinot Noir, and the new 2012 Zinfandel! As for our white wines, Associate White Winemaker John Hazak is busy choosing the finest lots of Chardonnay for our 2011 Reserve Chardonnay blend. These hand-selected lots will undergo 6 to 7 additional months of barrel aging as well as occasional batonnage to create the wine’s iconic buttery body.
We are expecting an earlier-than-usual harvest for the 2013 vintage; falling approximately in mid-August. Make sure to visit us this summer to experience the thrill of harvest-time!

This beautifully aged wine opens with dense spicy berry, sweet black cherry, and hints of dried sage. Luscious floral and berry notes, spicy cloves, vanilla, and soft velvety tannins glide across the palate. This wine typifies Carneros Merlot with great varietal intensity due to the extended hang-time provided by the cool climate found in the region. Perhaps the most dense and intense vintage from this site to date, this Merlot is perfectly matured and ready to impress even your most wine-savvy guests!
