Harvest 2015 Update from Winemaker Mari Coyle!
We are well under way in our harvest 2015! Our results thus far have been truly exceptional. The flavors, fruit intensity, and textures are remarkable. We have been discovering the nuances in each of our Calistoga ranches. Our Larsen Ranch Sauvignon Blanc has been leading with lemon-lime zest flavors, while our Tamagni and Bear Flats ranches express abundant notes of peaches and apricots.
Our cellar and production teams are the pulse of our operations. With countless years of experience they were able to get the winery ready to receive one of the earliest and most abundant rushes of Sauvignon Blanc in Sterling history. As a new Assistant Winemaker for Sterling Vineyards, I would like to thank you all for your warm welcome! I look forward to celebrating our successes together!
2012 Cellar Club Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon
91 Points from Wine Spectator! (August, 2015)
In the glass, our Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon shows dark, inky purple depths that bloom with brambly black fruit, blueberry pie and layers of toasted oak, nutmeg and clove. The signature Rutherford fruit shines across the midpalate as the smooth entry develops a brooding underbelly of rich, dark, juicy fruit. Dried cherries, dark cocoa and sweet hazelnut coffee melt through the middle, joined by barrel nuances that lend tannins and structure without overpowering the fruit. This well-balanced, well-structured Cabernet Sauvignon will hold up to hardy roasted or braised meats and rich sauce dishes.
